A week in Review

Well our last week in Portland was a lot of fun. Probably the highlight of my trip was when we went on the old highway and drove by some pretty amazing waterfalls. There are a dozen or so that can be seen from the highway, and even more that you can get out and hike to. We hiked to a few different ones and were just in awe by the beauty around. Yup, that's us standing behind it looking so little! It was amazing how wet you would get standing close to the waterfall. The kids weren't too thrilled about it at first, but we all got use to the mist.I love this picture mostly because Thomas would only take it if he had his arm around me. He's never done that and it made me feel pretty loved on Mothers Day;-)I've been contemplating buying a double stroller for awhile now with the warmer weather, but Thomas loves pushing Grace, and does a really good job doing it. I still might get one for long walks. We got him this bike and I'm hoping he'll just get really good at riding it. It's hard work teaching him to pedal it though. Any suggestions/tips???

I got in touch with one of my roommates from BYU and she and I went out to eat and had a lot of fun catching up. I'm bummed I didn't get a picture though. The rest of the week was pretty rainy, so we did some shopping, ate at some fun restaurants, and went swimming in the hotel every day. Portland is a lot bigger than I had thought, and there was a lot of fun things downtown to see. One mall we went into had an ice skating rink. Lots of good shopping though, and no sales tax, how can you go wrong? It was a great week, and probably my favorite hotel/city we've stayed at so far.
This week is going to be interesting. I decided to bail out on Nolan for the next trip because I wasn't sure how much more driving and hotel staying I was up for. Plus I need to do some activities for my church calling, laundry, and take care of some paperwork at home. So he will be gone to 3 different cities and I am going to be home in Walla Walla. It's my first time alone with both kids and not going to Boise, so we shall see how it goes. Wish me luck!

those were the falls that I got paul confused with his brother, held his hand for a while, then looked at his face and screamed. everyone else got a good laugh out of it. I think you should change your header picture to summ summ summertime.

We love Portland, it's a beautiful city. It's good that you are going to take a break from traveling, even though it is hard being alone so I do wish you good luck! I love the picture with his arm around you and the bike picture. I don't have any advice on pedaling but may have some soon or will need some myself, we're getting Mikey a bike for his birthday next week!

I love the green of Portland! Good luck being home with the kids by yourself! It's challenging, but I know you can do it. Fun pictures.

We're always trying to figure out where we want to settle when we grow up--and this post might have made up my mind. Seriously, it looked incredible and the city looked clean. Would you live there? Brian's got this weird infatuation with living in Montana these days? I think what you've been doing with all the traveling and living away from home is WAY harder than you'll find being at your own home. Good luck, though! Nights alone are NO FUN and they're LOOOOONG. Give me a call if you get a chance!

Those waterfalls look amazing! It took Ellie awhile to figure out the pedaling thing so I don't have any advice other than patience. Good luck for the three weeks by yourself. I am sure you will do great and will be more than ready to have Nolan back when he is done with his work.

I've never been to Portland but it looks so pretty! Kenzie just last year started pedaling all by herself, Brooklyn still won't so I don't have any tips for ya. Good luck at home for a while.

I know, it seems like you guys are always traveling! Those waterfalls look amazing! That is great too that you just got Thomas a bike. Sorry, no suggestions on pedaling. Adeline loves bikes too, but she is not a good pedaler (sp?)

What a crazy life! I can't remember why you guys are traveling so much. ?? Good luck staying home with the kids. I've only done that once so far, and it isn't easy.

This looks like so much fun, Ashley. I want to visit Portland now. I think Walla Walla has more appeal being that you're there. I wish we could see you in Boise this weekend but I'm glad for your sake that you're taking a break from traveling. Post some video of Thomas riding his bike! That's so exciting! Love, Sarah

What a beatiful place...I hope I get to visit there someday (I should...I have two brothers who live there). The waterfalls are awesome! I love Thomas's bike. I'm sure he'll naturally get the hang of it soon. I swear that is how it works, you can't really teach kids stuff like that. Have fun this weekend...think, you don't have to cook anything but kid food. :)

PS LOVED THE SURVIVOR FINALE. I AM A HUGE JT FAN...IDOL IS TONIGHT WOO WOO!

Here is a factoid for you: That mall with the ice rink is where Tonya Harding trained. It use to have a sign that said that but they took it down. Not sure why:P

Fun fun. I love that area too. Wish you could've come up just a little bit farther north :) But I don't blame you for wanting a break from traveling. I'll be alone this weekend too if ya want to talk. Love ya!
