Outdoors!

Over the weekend we went camping. It had been a couple summers that we went last and so we decided to try it. It turned out really great. The weather here has been pretty hot and our apartment AC just doesn't cut it, so it was added incentive to get up into the cool shade of the mountains.
I think the most fun part of camping is the food. We had shish ka bobs, yummy breakfast and smores. Someone tipped me off on using Nutella instead of Hersheys chocolate in Smores and it was a success. I loved them, and was so happy just eating my new found love next to the campfire.

Both Thomas and Nolan were in heaven. They love camping and hiking. We were exploring all the time, Thomas was always running ahead of us. The morning after we woke up I asked Thomas if he liked sleeping in the sleeping bag in the tent and he just giggled. I was most worried about sleep but they both did great minus waking up at 5:30 AM! Camping is a lot of work and packing, but once you're up there it's so nice to just relax without any distractions. Lots of quality family time.

To mosquito #XX:
Even though you are one of the most annoying insects alive, I have to give you some credit because you bit me where no mosquito has bit me before. Right on the inside of my nostril. Pretty funny of you because now I always look like I am picking my nose as I scratch the heck out of your bite. If I were a mosquito I think I would aim for that point of attack. Well done.
Ashley

hahahaha you crack me up with your note to mosiquito. OUCH! What an annoying place for it to strike.

Wow, kudos to you for taking two kids camping. We haven't even tried it with just Stone. I'd love to, though, but like you said...it's a lot of work! But I'm sure well worth it.

Glad you had a good time!

Sounds like fun! We actully tried to go camping last weekend and when we got to our destination Friday afternoon there were absolutely no sites left...so I'm happy to hear your trip was such a success! And I am impressed - I thought just getting ready to take one little one camping was a challenge - and you have two :)

Looks like fun! We've never been camping with just our little family before- that looks like lots of fun! A little less chaotic than going with a bunch of others. Not that that's not fun, it would just be different! =) I'll have to try the Nutella- sounds yummy. And that really stinks about your mosquito bite! I hate mosquitos!!

I'm sorry about your mosquito bite! That's pretty crazy, but it sounds like you guys had a ton of fun camping, too bad I left before that adventure! Also, that first picture on your blog is really pretty, and it reminds me of a twilight picture I've seen of the meadow. haha, just thought I'd let you know

It doesn't take much convincing to know that Thomas loved it. Those smiles are awesome...I can never seem to get that reaction out of him during camera time?

Ha ha, what a sneaky mosiquito. We got everything ready to go camping this weekend and forgot we had told our friends we would help them move. So we will have to try again in a few weeks. Bringing the booster seat for Grace is such a good idea! I will have to try that the next time we have a little one.

I'm glad you are having a nice time in your "home."
We sat next to your dad in church last week, and Jacob was loud. Afterwards I appologized for being such irreverent pew neighbors. He laughed and told me he had 7 children, 6 in 10 years (something close to that my mind is broken) so he was no stranger to toddlers in church. I had to laugh. I guess this new experience for me is old hat for many. It helps ;)
We look forward to see you next time you roll through!

We went camping too! Must be on the same brain wave there. You're right about it being lots of work! I almost backed out as I was trying to load everything, but it's fun and lots of family time like you said. And mosquitos :) I'll have to try the nutella thing. Mmmmm.

You two are always doing something fun. BOYS LOVE CAMPING! You are such a great sport to go along with it. Some of our favorite memories are camping together. Crazy place for a mosquito to bite, ouch!

Hey Ashley, you have no idea who I am, but I'm Nicole Lambert's husband. I just wanted to thank you for always taking an interest in what she posts. You've been such a good friend to Nicole by being so supportive of everything we've been doing. Whenever you leave comments, she always gets excited and makes sure that I see it. Thanks again.

I love camping, we are going the next 2 weekends, I can't wait. My kids love being outside and "exploring" when we camp, it's totally worth all the trouble of packing once you get there. I can't believe that you got bit on your nose, you'd think it would be a little hard for them to do what they do on your nose. I always get bit in weird places too, not obvious places like my arms or legs. I have to say though that I have not been bit on my nose - yet. (Knocking on wood)

I love that you guys went camping just your little family. I have to admit, I don't think the thought has even crossed my mind. When I think of camping I think of Bryan's mom preparing everything for the trip...all we have to do is show up. (and of course you and I both know what happens when the responsilbity of preparations is left up to me...a freezing night in Victor, Idaho...haha! I guess you guys have gotten better at it since then. :)

I have yet to get a mosquito bite in my nostril. I am sure that mosquito isn't loving all your publicity about it's landing!

If you thought this was good try one of these...
