What A Mother Does for Her Kids!

Okay long, but very crazy story here.

This morning I was cleaning our glass sliding door with Thomas' help and Grace was taking a nap. I know so great for me to clean during nap as opposed to eat/sleep/whatever. Anyways, as I shut the door to clean it the wood stick that locks it, fell down and lodged the door shut. I was in panic mode, but decided to just wait until someone walked by and I could ask them to come in our front door and remove the wood stick to let us back in the house. Unfortunately Grace woke up crying, and I couldn't see anyone. I started yelling, "HELLO?" Can anyone hear me? I need Help!" Then I yelled names of neighbors. Still no one. I tried making Thomas squeeze through the little crack, but his noggin wouldn't fit. Then I tried breaking into the screen on the window. No LUCK! As I started to feel more and more stressed and could sill hear Grace crying I decided I needed to jump this 10 foot high balcony. Oh man it was not good. I landed in a squat, and totally felt knees and ankles go on fire. My knees jammed into my chest, it knocked the wind out of me. I didn't have time to think about it and I hurried upstairs, mostly out of embarrassment if anyone saw me. I hoped I might have looked similar to this when I landed, but seriously doubt it. After I got Grace and gave her a bottle and convinced Thomas to not try and jump off the balcony, I laid on the couch, and felt the consequences of the jump catch up to me. Oh my neck! I now have much sympathy for whiplash victims in car crashes. The rest of me feels okay, but oh man the neck! Now I hope it recovers quickly because this weekend we are going to Nolans uncles cabin on a Lake, and I definitely want to work on some boating skills. Feel bad for me? Thanks.

Oh my gosh!!!! You are so lucky you didn't get more hurt. So that exact scenario is my biggest fear!! I swear I must put that wood piece like 30 feet from the door when I am doing that. LOL yes its a little extreme!

Glad all worked out for you! And have fun at the cabin!! That sounds so nice.

poor ashley. I still can't believe that you did that...seriously. Next time (knock on wood that there won't be a next time) you should just break in through the window to Grace/Thomas' room. You are a super mom though, it's official

You are crazy! I don't know if I would have jumped. What a good mom! I have had a few panic modes like that. One time, in this house, I locked myself out with one year old Hunter inside . All the other kids were with me outside. I seriously didn't know what to do, my sister-in-law called 911 to get help but then she remembered this cool trick: If you slide a credit card up and down the crack near the knob, it will open the door. Sure enough it worked. I was relieved but bummed I had to explain all this to the cop that came a little later.

Oh my Gosh! How scary, funny, and awesome of you. The crazy thing is that about a month or so ago the same thing happened to me. Luckly all the kids were with me. So we went to the neighbors and called Seth.(because I didn't have my cell phone). And he was an hour away so we just chilled at the neighbors. Getting locked out is so aweful.Glad everyone is ok and your mommy instincts kicked in!

I can imagine how stressed you were! It's a good thing your front door wasn't lock. I hope your neck starts feeling better and I'm glad you didn't get any more serious injuries. So, from your experienced I have learned to not clean during nap times...Beck is napping right now and I'm looking at blogs, haha.

Oh my...I think I would have broke the window before I jumped off the balcony. You are one brave mama! I hope you feel better soon and I'm glad you weren't more seriously injured.

Ashley that is horrible. I know that panic feeling but didn't experience the actual physical pain. Yesterday Matthew locked me out of the house as I was getting the groceries. He couldn't get it back open. It was just the screen door so I could see through the door window Taylor and him standing at the window. This happened before and was much worse. Taylor was just little and MAtthew locked me out and it took forever for him to open the door and I was just balling. I can't believe you climbed up there. That's awesome. I really hope you are okay

Isn't it funny what we are willing to do to get to our crying babies? You are a brave mom! I hope that your neck gets feeling better soon! That is one of my worst fears.

Whoa! It is truly amazing what would do for our kids! =) Hope your neck feels better SOON!! Way to go, Supermom!

Wow! I'm glad you didn't get too hurt. That will teach you to clean instead of relax while kids are sleeping. And your mosquito bite sounds awful. That is a pretty creative and annoying place to bite someone.

The whole time I was reading it I was cringing, but I bet if you'd been telling me in person I'd be laughing my head off. I don't know what I would have done! I hope you feel better soon!!

My friend locked herself out with her baby inside and she had a cell phone so she called 911. It's considered an emergency to have a baby locked inside a house or car by themselves. When the fire department got there they totally hacked her entire door down--not just the door, but even into the door frame. And another time my sister locked her kids in the car and like 3 fire engines showed up.

You saved the day all by yourself--you're a hero!

Awesome. I've locked myself out before too - very scary but makes for good stories later.

oh Ashley! I was wondering where this story was going. I could see you do that, you crazy girl! Have you ever jumped out of Grandma's hayloft? Seems like you did. I love the pictures that went with the story. :)

Oh no!! I don't even know what I would have done in that situation...it probably would have involved crying of some sort! But you did awesome and I could picture you exactly how you were describing it! Thomas and Grace are lucky to have one fit mama!
