Sorry if this posted last night. You'd think I would learn one of these days to stop doing that early:-)I can't believe my little man is 3. That seems old. I really don't want them to get any older than 5, but I know that is not how things work. We had a really great day. We invited one little boy over that is his age here for a few hours in the morning. Grace was asleep for most of it so they could play uninterrupted with cars and trains. One of our highlights was dinner at this Mexican restaurant, they sang to Thomas (Toe-Moss) and he was loving the hat.
He has really been into trains, so we made him a train cake, and he was so excited to see it.
When we let him eat it, we just let him take it apart and eat whatever he wanted. It was cute, the wheels and candy on top were the first to go, then the engine.

This was the first year that we talked about his birthday with much anticipation. A few of his friends have had birthdays in the last 3 weeks and so he was seeing how fun it was to open presents, eat cake, and party. Every morning for the past five days he has said "cake today?" No, not yet, and he responded "Oh ,I'm two still." I love that he's getting it more and more. Can't wait for Christmas.
Anyways, the biggest change in Thomas these past few months for me has been his vocabulary. He was very slow to start talking, and in the last few months has really grown. Some of my favorites:
Milk is Nulp, no matter how much we try to change it.
Thomas is Nomas.
Grace is Nace. (He likes his N's!)
Thomas says oops sorry about anything. If he burps, toots, spills something, if his train falls off the track, even if you accidental step on his foot. It's so sweet. I need to be that quick to apologize.
He also says "Oh man" all the time when he is frustrated.
When we were teaching Grace to walk between us he would say, "Thomas turn" and slowly take steps to us like he was having trouble, then leap into our arms like he was almost falling. I don't think he got that Grace really didn't know how to walk.
He imitates everything we do. Sometimes I have to shut our car doors using my foot, and one day Thomas shut his door and then kicked it and was like "I did it mom!"
We sure love this little man!

Cute cake! I'm way impressed. He's a cute kid.
You'd think I'd be used to you making cute cakes, but you never cease to amaze me! Looks like a fun party. Is three different than two so far? Your pictures are looking great. Random question...what kind of camera do you have, I'm in the market for a new one.
Thanks for the camera help. We got ours two years ago and it's getting blurier every day. It's driving me crazy. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to with less tantrums and potty training!
Happy Birthday Thomas. We thought about you a lot yesterday. I think it made Matthew excited for his birthday. I'm glad he had a fun day. He looks so excited and happy in all of the pictures. Awesome train cake. I am always amazed. It's so fun to hear all that Thomas is saying. That is great and so fun. We can't wait to see you guys at Christmas.
He is so Cute! Nice job on the cake! I can't believe how fast the years go by. It is hard to believe my baby will be 3 soon:( Happy Birthday Thomas!
You always do such a great job with cakes!! This cake is awesome. Happy birthday, Mr. T! Has it REALLY been three years?!
I absolutely love this post. Nomas looks so cute and OLD! Very impressed by the cake and that you let him have full reign! Also, am I the only one that is weirded out by the communal sombrero? Maybe there is no lice or dandruff in mexico.
He sounds like such a sweet little guy! Your cake turned out awesome. Three is such a fun age. Watch out - he will grow up so much over the next year, but four is great too!
Happy Birthday Thomas! I love the cake Ashley. You and Nolan are so creative and willing to take time to make something cool like that! I can't believe he's three. He's so cute. His cake was adorable. What a good idea. I remember Hunter doing the same thing (wanting to practice walking) when Macie was learning to walk. It was funny. I think they crave the attention that the youngest is getting. You sure have a sweet little boy.
Sounds like a really great way to celebrate a great little boy! I enjoyed reading about Thomas.
