Bad Mom Moment!

So I had one of those days where you just don't feel like you should be in charge of two great children. Nolans been sick for the past week and it's felt like I have had and extra child to take care of all by myself. So I've been a little frazzled, anyways, I took the kids with me to get some stuff at Rite Aid. I was done shopping and I headed out and got the kids buckled in the car, and got in realizing I left my wallet, UGH. I knew I had left it right on the counter, so I ran back in to the store. It wasn't there, panic, and the clerk was in an aisle loading Easter candy. SO I went over and asked her and she had put it under the counter. (Why she couldn't have checked if I was still there and just ran it out to me? I don't know.)
Anyways as I hurried outside, there was a lady standing by the car calling someone about a lady leaving 2 infants in the car. I told her they were my kids and that I ran in really quick, and she gave me the 3rd degree. It crushed me. I was literally shaking and have never felt so terrible. I definitely don't think kids should be left in the car and know all the harm that could be done, but I thought it would not be a huge deal since it took me all of 1 minute max. I just keep replaying her words to me over and over. I almost didn't want to blog this because I don't want more ridicule, but I had to vent. I guess I should just be happy there are such observant people out there looking out for the best interest of children. I have for sure learned me lesson though. Whew!

Oh Ashley, I don't think you are a bad mom but I know that feeling a little bit. I just left Taylor in the car at the grocery store while I was putting our cart away (a few cars away) not that big of a deal i would say. I locked the doors and had Matthew in my arms as I 20 seconds later saw an old man and women totally looking in the window. First off I was ticked some freaky people were looking at my daughter. They of course were all worried and I was just putting the cart away. Your experience was definately worse. I didn't get chewed out that bad. I am sorry. Taylor of course was screaming because two crazy people were putting their heads right up to her window. I hope Nolan gets feeling better.

Oh man some people really need to get a life!! One minute is not a big deal at all and she probably saw you walk in there! Hope the rest of your day goes better!!

That woman is obviously not a mother. Every mother has left her kids in the car at some point. If they were strapped in, doors locked, not a hot day then they were completely fine!! She needs to relax. If you think about it they were probably safer in that situation then when we leave them watching tv while we shower you know? Don't beat yourself up! You are doing your best!!

Don't beat yourself up, you're a great mother! Sorry you had to put up with that lady!

I think people forget how hard it is to cart around multiple children day in and day out. And just how much work it is to be a mom in general! Don't beat yourself up too much. We're all doing the best we can and once she heard your side of the story she should of have a little more compassion and been a little less critical! I know you are a wonderful mom. I'd trust you with all 3 of mine!

You are a great mom, and not a big deal, I can see both ends of this.. 1. if you are running quickly and know you are only going to be a second, who wants to DRAG 2 kids in the store, and like jill said who wants to take both to put the cart away, but what happens that you left them there, and something were to happen to you? BUt I am with you, I think you are fine, but its to bad our world has gotten where we can't just leave them for a few seconds in a locked car and its not TOASTING hot outside..

Don't worry. I hope the sickness leaves your house.

WE have already chatted about this, but I want to echo the other sentiments that motherhood is all about balance, and I think you are juggling your circus perfectly!

Oh Man Ashley! I can't tell you how many times I have run into a store for parts, or whatever, real quick. It gets so hard and so VERY time consuming to get them out everytime. I know we should though. You are a great Mom!! That lady needs a life. She actually needs to go shopping with 2 kis! I hope Nolan gets better. Hope you 3 don't get it.

That's too bad that lady had to make you feel worse about your already rough day. It could have been a lot worse situation for you to leave your kids in the car, like others have already mentioned. You are a great mom! Hope Nolan feels better soon and that tomorrow is a better day.

Get your windows tinted limo dark, nobody sees anything, especially when you have to pee in the kids potty in the back.

Ashley, you are NOT a bad mom! That lady didn't know the circumstances, she's a stink face and probably pees her pants. (did you laugh at that? okay, it wasn't that funny, perhaps it brought one of those small smiles though.) It's easier said than done, but don't let it get to you or dwell on it. You are such a great mom and I hope your day is spectacular tomorrow! Hope Nolan is feeling better!

Oh no! So sorry! I had a lady at Walmart come up to me and TOUCH Mason's feet and tell me that they were cold and tell me that I should know better and that he is going to get sick if I don't watch it...I think I cried on the way home!!(he kept pulling his socks off so I just left them off!) Anyways, not quite the same, but similar...I don't know why people think that they are allowed to say whatever they like. Oh and I do the grocery cart thing all the time and it probably takes me just as long as it did you to go into the store! I think you are doing just fine!!

Really I think you are just a horrible mom and pretty much a horrible person in general. But maybe you can change my mind by wearing a mens figure skating constume and singing "shot through the heart" with interpretative dance and emotion attached.

Oh Ashley, I'm so sorry that happened to you! I swear some people in Walla Walla hover of those of us who do have kids just so they can judge us and parent the parent. I remember when I first moved here I felt like I was being "watched" there...I'm weird I know ;) I hope you have a better day today! We will be in town today and tomorrow (Cooper has a wrestling tournament at WA-HI) We should do lunch or dinner...or something!

oh, Ash! you're a great mom, and I don't think you were making a bad-mom decision at all leaving them in the car for that.
Sorry that you got scolded though; I always hate that and totally know what you mean about feeling shaky and stuff. So sorry!

What an anal freak lady! Just let it roll off you Ash :) There's been so many times I've been tempted to leave them for a second to do something, but then I don't---not because I'm worried about the kids (they're FINE), but I'm worried I'll run into some crazy person like that!

I'm glad you are feeling better! You are a great mom and I know you would do anything to protect your kids- even jumping off your deck! If kids are stapped in and can't get out and it's not hot, I'm sure its OK for a minute. I know how much you love your kids and always use good judgement. I don't know how our kids ever survived without ever using car seats!

I'm so sorry!!! You definitely didn't need to get chewed out.

Oh Wow, sorry to hear that you were chewed out. How awful, she has obviously forgotten how hard it is to carry two kids into a store, and turn around and get them back into the car. Don't worry about it, I don't know why some people think their opinion needs to be heard so they can change the world. You are a great mother, their is no doubt in my mind.

If you thought this was good try one of these...
