Maui, Hawaii, Day 1 & 2, Hana

So I am going to break up my Hawaii posts into a few different ones so I actually get it done. This trip was so perfect. I feel like I've been having vacation depression just because I think about and miss this trip so badly! Blogging helps me relieve it though. I'm so happy we went and were there with Nolan's sister Holly & Kent who were so fun to be with. We flew into Maui around 1 pm, Holly and Kent were already there so they picked us up. From the airport we went to get some grub, put on our suits and then we started our drive to Hana. Not sure if you have ever heard of the road to hana, but it is pretty treacherous. There are a ton of windy turns, with big cliff drop offs, and one way bridges. Nolan had done a lot of research from this book about exactly what we had to see and do while we were in Maui. We followed it to a T, and it made our trip what it was. The author, Andy, was a huge part of our conversations each day. "Where does Andy think we should eat?" "What would Andy do?" "What beach does Andy say is best?" With Andy's help we traveled the road to Hana in style. Stopping every few miles to go on a little hike and see some amazing waterfalls. We did a lot of swimming in these fresh water pools that the waterfalls dumped into. We finally made it to Hana at 8:30 that night and pulled into the first place we were staying on this trip. Andy made a huge point to be in Hana late at night and early in the morning. Hardly anyone stays overnight so the city is pretty quiet after 5, and before 9. There isn't too many places to stay there, but we managed to get a reservation at Joes. By this time we were very tired. It was 12:30 our time and we'd been up since 5. We knew Joe's wasn't the nicest place, but t we weren't expecting the coak roach inn that we had, but we didn't care, we ate some top roman because nothing was open, watched a little So You Think You Can Dance and slept. We woke up at 5 the next morning still not quite adjusted to the time change and headed out on more hiking and sight seeing. We went to Venus pools and cliff dived for a while. Nolan and Holly were pretty adventurous, but we all got some good jumps in. Nolan's wedding ring now resides in these pools. We then went to one of my top 5 favorite memories of this trip. The seven sacred pools. We hiked to the top one and swam in it and under the waterfall. It was so rejuvenating and refreshing. It really felt like we were the only people on the island. Holly calls it my spiritual experience! Okay we're getting kind of long here, so I'll sum it up with words. We then went to black sand beach, red sand beach, saw some lava tubes, and finally jumped in a swam in some caves. It's not a great picture because it was dark in there, but under that ledge we actually swam and there was about 12 inches between the top of the rock and the water. SO then we braved the road out of Hana one more time, ate dinner, and to our hotel. Days 3 and 4 coming soon!

That sounds like an amazing trip! I'm sorry to hear about Nolan's ring, but I guess if you've gotta lose it somewhere that's a pretty good place to lose it ; ) I'm glad you got a break and I hope farm life is treating you well!

Yeay! It looks so fun! I hope we get to go someday. :) We'll have to hit you up for all the info. Too bad about Nolan's ring. Brent lost his last year during our move...It just kinda stinks. But, glad you had a great time!

I love all the swimming in caves and waterfalls and pools. Braydan lost his wedding ring in a waterfall in Hamilton. I had to buy him another one a month after we got married! At least yours has lasted this long :-) So . . . does this mean we don't get to hear about the rest of the trip?

I love that I live here and I'm still so amazed by the beauty! haha! Your trip looks rad so far! At least Nolan lost his ring in a really rad place and not somewhere like the toilet or sink you know? I can't wait to see more! Matt has been to Maui and didn't like it, I've never been, so we can't go :( So I'm living through you right now! :)

Oh, makes me homesick for our Hawaii trip. I'm so glad you got to go! I figured the best part of going with another couple is you have a lot of pictures with Nolan. I wish we had more of the both of us. So fun!

So sorry I haven't commented until now. Blogging is tough. I'm sad though that you are quitting. I can't say that I don't blame you though. man, I didn't know Nolan had lost his ring. That's sure too bad. Nate's was lost or stolen in our move here and we still haven't replaced it. I sure enjoyed getting to see all your pictures and hear what a great time you guys had. Wish we all could have gone. We sure need another cruise altogether.

If you thought this was good try one of these...
