October is such a fun month. The weather is changing, Thomas has a birthday, and of course all of the Halloween Hoopla! I really enjoy Halloween. It's such a chill holiday but is completely centered on children, so a lot of the focus is about what they want to do. To kick off the spirit we went to a pumpkin patch.
Grace was determined to find the best baby pumpkin. I made her go a little bigger in size so we could carve it. Thomas was on the hunt for a perfectly proportioned one. I liked this place we went. You could get a wheel barrow and go out to the patch to find yours or pick from the hundreds he had placed out. We went the lazy route, because Emma was ready for nap time. Maybe next year I'll be more adventurous.
That weekend we carved our pumpkins at Grandma's house. Thomas top lip fell off somewhere between there and our house, but I convinced him that it looked all the mores spooky this way.
We also entered a little costume competition that you may have seen on facebook. The winner took home free pizza for a year, and wouldn't you know it my little ice cream cone and cupcake won! It was pretty exciting news.
Halloween night started around 6 for us. I like being able to be out in the light and visit with others around us trick or treating. That's one benefit of a small town, most of the houses and people we saw trick or treating we knew from school or church.
We went with our cousins, and they were so fast going door to door. I don't know if I have met anyone who loves candy as much as I do until Kyle (wii remote) came along. A kid after my own heart.
Nolan's mom joined us too, and she was pretty funny in her African witch costume. Nolan was a baker because he helped make Emma and Grace. haha. I was the Soul Surfer, since Thomas ate my arm. I am only bummed that I forgot the surfboard! It was a very warm night and even with just shorts and a t-shirt under my wet suit, I cam home sweating. Quite a bit different than Trick Or Treating as a kid in Montana with my whole snow suit under my bumble bee outfit and still being cold.
We got home and the kids were thrilled with their haul. Nolan and I were pretty happy too. We all have an understanding that we share the candy so it works out well. This really was the best year so far with kids. In years past they were pretty slow to the doors, and quiet when they opened them. Then they were done with it pretty quickly, but this year all the opposite were true. I hate to see my kids getting older, but some things are definitely getting more fun. I hope you had a great Holiday too!

Love the costumes! And being in a snow suit under your costume as a kid is hilarious. I grew up in trick or treating in the desert, so we were always sweating like crazy! Love your family costumes.
