Building A House Part 5
Wow it's been a long time since I last posted house updates, but the reason for that is simply that our house has been very slow moving the past couple months. We had a couple months where only a week of work got done. It was really cold for like a month and they couldn't work, then the holidays came, but now things are really moving. They came an put up the board and batten siding, which are the vertical pieces of wood on the outside. We still can't paint the exterior because it's so cold.
The mason came and put up our rock, and we got garage doors. You have no idea how long it took us to decide on those doors. How many panels should we do. Do we want glass? Clear or not? I seriously want to just tell the builder to choose once and awhile and know we'd be happy. But Nolan doesn't. He wants his voice in every detail, which I'm grateful because it's all turning out beautifully.
Nolan and I work hard each night making decisions and what not. When our rock came for our fireplaces we did not like the hearth stones, so we took them back, and when we were in Boise last weekend we searched rock yard after rock yard looking for the pefect match. We were both relieved we finally found what we liked. Nolan did a lot of heavy lifting! The big news is that the house has been sheetrocked!

Basement Family Room. Out this window you can see where Nolan dug huge holes to put the septic in and the huge drain field. It was the most stressful part to date for him, but it's done. He also hooked up the geothermal heating in 8 big trenches that required a lot of time and work as well.

Wow what a difference Sheetrock makes. I kept telling Nolan the house feels so much smaller now that there are walls. A few weeks later the walls got mud & tapped and textured. We were so excited work was being done, we offered up our home for the workers to shower in so they wouldn't drive back to their homes a few hours away and would stay at the camper on site. Right now the trim is being put up and all the interior doors. The doors we wanted were a $7,000 upgrade, so we took a while deciding which ones to get. We also spent a long time deciding what we wanted our molding above the doors and windows to look like. It's amazing all the choices. We just ordered our hard wood flooring (another lengthy decision process). That will go in after trim and paint is done! We still don't have a finish date, but I'm thinking mid February, March! Hopefully I'll have more updates soon.

It's official. I NEED A TOUR! Kelly will be home next week and I'm inviting ourselves over. :)
Everything looks so great! I know what you mean about all the decisions--it's so hard!
Both of your tastes are impeccable. I want updated pictures now. :)
Wow, it;s really a house now!!! It looks amazing and I love all the fireplaces and big windows. It is going to be beautiful. I always thought I would want to build a house but I wonder if Glen and I could be decisive enough; I am sure it will be a relief once all decision making is done. Also, somehow I didn't see the post below….I am so happy that you had so much help, visitors and meals. That does have to feel so great!! I am so glad James has been a good baby too. He is so sweet and I want to meet him so bad!! love you
Even in this stage it looks beautiful. Can't wait to visit. I love, love, love fireplaces. So happy for you.
wow You guys have to make so many big decisions on your house. it is looking awesome though, it already looks farther along than when we got to walk through it. It's gonna be such a sweet house, I can tell
So exciting Ashley!! I am loving it!!
Freaking awesome...I can't imagine the work it would take...seriously....like hard working illegals would turn it down....too much? I knew it might be a gamble comment.
I just got caught up on reading your blog. I loved all the pictures of your christmas and company and especially loved seeing your family all together and how well James is doing etc. I am so happy for you Ashley!
