Wow so much has changed in our home since I last posted. The transformation is incredible. All of our trim, closets, and shelfs have been built, and the rooms have all been painted. Nolan was very specific on what he wanted the molding above the doors and windows to look like. Every single "header" is what they are called took the builders 3 different cuts of wood to construct. A typical house is one cut. The workers were not too happy about all the extra work on the trim, but the outcome is exactly what we wanted.
Above is our dining room. You can see the molding in the tray ceiling. I LOVE IT!
We had a tough time choosing paint. All over the internet you see the Revere Pewter color being everyone's favorite and I like it a lot, but was worried it was too light. I wanted to people to know our walls were gray. So we chose Benjamen Moore's "Thunder" color, and after many sleepless nights of worry that it was too dark, I am now glad Nolan and a few friends, convinced me to stick with it and not change. With all the natural light, it looks great.
Our great room still needs all the baseboards, but the wood floor needs to be installed which is hopefully up next!
Entry
This is our room, can you tell I'm a fan of the boxed, board and batten molding?
Our closets were very time intensive, but there should be plenty of storage in our house for anything we ever buy in the future!
Going downstairs, you can see the kids entry to the playroom here. The molding along the stairs was another headache. We didn't want carpet going up the wall, so Nolan had to cut something like 30 triangles to fit in each side of the stairs, then put some basemolding on top of it. Most people probably won't realize the work involved, but I want to remember that headache :-) I doubt many people even know what is going down their stairs I didn't in our current house. Another reason I am glad Nolan is here to think of these things. Go ahead look and see what your house did, I won't judge.
Here is the basement great room. The windows are actually deep enough you can sit on the molding quite comfortably. Those will be the movie seats :-)
This is Grace's room. With her pink bedspread, I think this will be plenty girlie, but she wanted a blue room, and is so excited for her 2 closets! One for normal clothes, and one for dress ups and doll clothes. WH-What?
Here is a not so funny story. Grace thought it would be neat to carve her name into the Sheetrock. We didn't notice it until they painted, and our painter brought it to our attention and asked if we wanted to keep it that way. UH, NO! Already our kids are wrecking havoc!
Thomas room looks very nice, I still am not sure what to do in Emma's but have a plan for the nursery I'm hoping to get done this weekend. Have any of you tried painting with a newborn, and toddler in a house with no toys, or tv? It's no easy feat.
Here is the shelving unit in the garage Nolan built in 50 minutes. I am not kidding. We were under a time crunch because I needed to help him, but the kids were going crazy and needing naps. So he whipped this bad boy out in no time. He's amazing. I said just have the builders do it, but he could tell they were DONE building shelving units by this point, so he did it. Still needs painted.
The deck has been started, but for some reason we haven't seen the builders here in about 2 weeks. It's frustrating, but what can you do, we'll move in someday!
More rock has been put up. The columns are another one of those long stories that were so stressful, but you'd never know it. I think they had to rebuild them 3 different times for us. Picky much? YES! Who knows when it will get painted. There is still a lot of caulking, and trim on the exterior that needs to get done. We still don't have a move in date, but are hoping for the end of April. Tile, Hardwood are up next. WISH US LUCK!
