Happy Love Week to all!
So what better to start it out than with my LOVE for board games! That's right, I am a nerd and can't get enough of them. And not just any board game, but ones that have a ton of setup and a lot of strategy, and very little luck involved. They can be a little pricey, but Nolan and I feel like it's worth the cost with how much we enjoy playing them together each week and with friends. It's sort of a tradition for us to get a new one each Valentines Day for each other.
My LOVE for board games started at a young age when my brother and I would play Monopoly for weeks. I would actually think I could come back and win even when all my properties were mortgaged and I had no money. Instead of paying my brother when I landed on his hotel property he was so gracious to let me slide if he could throw his hackey sac at me as hard as he could. In the end I walked away with welts, and a loss, but it didn't stop me from wanting to start another game up a few hours later.
Now the games are more complex, and don't worry I no longer resort to physical abuse to try to win. So here they are in no particular order, it's so hard to narrow down which ones to post...
Dominion- No board in this game, just cards!
Thurns & Taxis- Our Valentines present this year!
Alhambra- This and Ticket to Ride are great for those who enjoy games but not a ton of rules and set up.
Puerto Rico
Settlers of Catan (Only makes the list if you are playing with the cities and knights expansion)

Railroad Tycoon- The board really does cover our entire table!
Agricola--By far the most setup/confusing/strategic. Definitely not for beginners! There you have it, what are some of your favorite games to play? Happy Gaming Everyone!

Do you really own all of those games?? I wished I loved those complex ones more but I just don't. Maybe you wouldn't want to be neighbors someday. j/k I would give them a try. I love your love week idea!!
LOVE the love week idea! I might copy it! I love board games, too, but we just never play them.
Ooohh, we have and love most of those games. Wish you guys lived closer so we could play them with you.
Puerto Rico!! that was a fun game. I love love week. I think I will copy you (it'll be great for avoiding the beginning of homework)
We can't wait to play some of those with you!! I haven't even heard of your new ones, I can't wait to try them out. The boys played Agricola for like 3 hours yesterday, and the best part is Darin only got 3 people!!! It was pretty funny! Can't wait to see what else you love.
oh sheesh. everytime I think I learn all the rules to one of your games, you bring out another game! Whatever happened to RRRRRRRAAAAAAACKKKKKOOOO!
I've never even heard of most of those games. Gotta love Catan and Ticket to Ride though and I need to try out the rest of your faves.
Which brother threw the hacky sac?!?! LOL! I love games too - be glad Nolan likes them! We just played a new Trivial Pursuit game and you get to bet and buy pie slices - it was great!
You inspire me to play harder board games. Usually when I get around to playing my brain is dead so I pick the easy ones. I need to be more like you! Oh, I have to tell you that I watched Glee and they sang that country song that you and Nolan ate chocolate cake to and I laughed. I laugh every time I hear that song : )
Wow, I'm behind in the game world. Remember our Monopoly days in the food storage room? Good times. What's a fun game for lots of couples? Most of our games are good for 6, so big groups we need some ideas! Thank you for posting! I'm excited for the rest of your love week.
I'm so glad you're doing love week!!
Ok, so I used to love games. I actually still do but Dave is the type that ALWAYS wins no matter what and that got old so I was a poor sport and quit. I should buy him one of these new ones though and start up again. It's good husband / wife bonding time.
I've never even heard of those games. I remember playing with you, very competative! I'd really get smeared by you now with your harder/quicker mind! :)
oh yea, which brother did that?
ok so teach me how to play Dominion, we just got it from Ragnar's sister and I am not sure we get the point! I miss playing games with you guys! :(
I love your love week posts. I am going to start it too.
Our love for board games has gone downhill since we had the twins (it is no fun to play with someone always taking my stuff) and since we moved from UT and don't get to play with you guys anymore. BOOHOO.
I'm a big board game fan and I'm sad to say we own two, but I'm not even sure if I would classify them as board games (hungry hippos and scrabble). Scrabble was a Christmas gift this year and I make Matt play it almost nightly. Ha!
