Emma's Tonsillectomy and 2nd Birthday

Emma got her tonsils and adenoids out a couple weeks ago. She also got new tubes in her ears. Sadly the best time for this to take place happened to fall on her 2nd birthday. Luckily she is young enough she didn't even know. We'll do a better celebration next week when she is better. The following week was Spring Break, and so the next day she could have gotten it done would have been 3 weeks later. I knew if we waited those three weeks would be very miserable for all of us. For the last three months she has had a double ear infection that won't go away even with four rounds of antibiotics, the sooner we could get in there, the better.
Almost a year ago she had tubes put it, but they had fallen out now and the ear infections had come back. The doctor thought she for sure needed them again and that by taking out her tonsils and adenoids it would prevent this from happening again in the future.
The surgery went well. They took her back and when they put the mask on her she started trying to lick it. I guess the gas smells like cherry. Just 40 minutes later she was back in my arms and slept that was for 2 hours. The Dr. said it was very good we did this. Her tonsils were very large for a 2 year old, and there was a lot of fluid in her ears that he drained. He described it as if she was underwater. I feel bad it affected her hearing and speech so much. The nurses had me wake her after a couple hours and she downed a few apple juices and Popsicle and we were on our way.
The first week of recovery was pretty difficult. Lots of movies, juice, and cuddling. Nolan slept next to her crib each night and kept her pain medicine in her. After 10 days she started sleeping better, and now she is sleeping so well.

Since she was feeling better, we were able to celebrate her birthday. Things are so busy lately with the house and 4 kids that I had her party without Nolan. He's swamped with planting season, and then he's working tirelessly on tiling the house. He deserves full credit on this cake. Emma is obsessed with Despicable Me and these litte minions. Whenever they come on screen she squels and smiles at them. When I brought this cake out she was all smiles and kissed it. I am sad I don't have her reaction on camera.

I let her go wild on eating it. She was so happy to hear us singing to her.
And she also liked her presents. We got her this bear that sings different songs to you when you play with it. Her cousin Macey has one and she loved it.
We also got her this big tent and tunnel along with Grandma and Grandpa Harper, and new pj's. It was a fun, low key party. Emma is such a trooper through all this sickness. She loves singing Old Mcdonald, and wheels on the bus. She also loves to dance, and play monsters. She will scare us with her arms above her head and "roar" at us! Here is to a healthy year for her!

I love her pigtails!! What a sweet girl. I am glad she is feeling and sleeping better. That sounds so miserable to be sick for so long. She is a trooper. Love the cake and the fact that she loves Despicable Me. Can't wait to see you guys.

I was going to say the same thing as Jill... Love her piggies! Poor baby! Poor family. Not all dads would sleep next to their toddler, and I think Nolan is top notch...for the cake abilities too. I am curious how you got the frosting so smooth and shiny? Anyway, can't wait to see Emma again and play 'above water'.

She already looks happier! I'm glad you got her surgery done too! Looks like she had a great birthday after all. And to comment on your other post, I'm so glad that Island Park turned out better! I know how important escapes can be with our busy husbands! Speaking of busy, there is no reason for us not seeing each other lately! We need to plan a craft day pronto!

That cake looked so great! You always do such an amazing job on cakes/birthdays. She is so cute! Did I tell you that she and Lottie have the same middle name? I love it. :) I hope she is feeling better!

Poor baby girl. Hopefully the problem is solved now...phew, after you've had super bad and it starts to clear, it's the best, like you are super mom and have a super hero family and nothing could go wrong...I love that feeling, until something goes wrong again, but still, it's awesome.

What a doll. Because of my absence from blogging, I feel like I don't even know Emma. Which is funny, because I feel like I know your older two even though I have never met them. Roomate reunion!!

If you thought this was good try one of these...
